INTRODUCTION

Lab Activities

We as Māori have a deep and inherent connection with the world around us. For many of us over the last couple of generations, we have seen and felt this connection become damaged by colonization, urbanisation, environmental change and much more. This is symptomatic of the imbalance that has been occurring for centuries between humans and the natural world all around the globe.

These activities are designed to help reconnect us to that world, to monitor it and to create a movement to help heal our home. Please feel free to use them as templates for your teaching and use.

We have designed these activities similar to laboratory experiments, with the environment and world around you acting as your laboratory. Observing the natural world, recording your observations in memory, written or digital form or online and connecting them together to help you collect your observations/information or data to analyse. Figuring out the relationships, drawing connections and thinking up new ideas is theorising. Bringing them all together is your research and results.

Here we provide a set of activities corresponding to  each wānanga.
